Crips & Bloods
“People are afraid of the shit they don’t understand,” as told by a Crip member in the “Crips vs Bloods 2013 – Gangs War Documentary.” The rivalry between the Crips and the Bloods is common knowledge, but the origins of the rivalry, as well as the origins of each gang, are not well-known. As the Crip member suggested, many people are afraid of these LA gangs, and the only thing they want to know about them is that they should stay away from them. The hostile environment that these gangs create is not only evident on the streets of LA, but inside their own walls as well. As much as the 'die for your brothers, die for you gang,’ mentality is promoted, it is truly an every man for himself world. Every set wants power, terriortiy, and money; and will look to achieve that anyway they can. The strong brotherhood these gangs entail and that has been commercialized is misleading. Like families, just because we all relate, doesn’t me we get a long or at least get along all the time. For the most part, the human side of these gangs is lost in the media and our education. We believe all they do is kill, kill, and kill. Of course that does happen, so in that regard our belief isn’t completely off, but that isn’t the whole story. Media has a huge impact with everything in our world and some don’t choose to tell the true story. Due to media, people are afraid and seem to disassociate these gang members from being humans. People need to learn the gang members are in fact human and to understand them we must learn about them.
